Climbing The Mountain, Excerpts From The Book

Spiritual Warfare

We must examine the relationships around us, most importantly, our own. The enemy will seek to destroy what is good in a relationship and replace it with exploitation and manipulation. As lay apostles, we must look into each relationship in our lives and be certain that we follow Godly principles. We must seek to be genuinely giving, with an awareness that we should strive to set an example of Christ-like behavior to each other.

The devil does not want this, of course. The devil wants to use us to exploit those around us. People cooperate by using others, perhaps for sex, for money, for power, or ego. We must be scrupulous not to fall into these traps. There is no benefit to reading, or indeed writing a work such as this if we use it only to identify the flaws of others. We must search tirelessly for our own flaws, using the example set by Jesus Christ as our behavioral goal.

How does the devil seek to poison relationships?

The devil sometimes whispers that a person is weak or foolish and tries to inspire us to manipulate that person.

The devil tries to fill us with insecurity, telling us that others take advantage of us and treat us badly.

The devil attempts to persuade us that people do not admire us enough and that people do not see all of our good qualities and efforts.

The devil tries to persuade us that we are misused, unloved, and under-appreciated.

The devil says that we are wasting our time in loving people who are unworthy of our love.

Surely the enemy made similar statements to Jesus.

Such whispering! It never ends, my friends. Be assured that if we are trying to serve our God, we have an enemy who is equally committed to pulling us from our path and drawing us to a path that leads in the opposite direction. There is, after all, a constant battle being waged for our souls.

On The Enemy
The enemy seeks to distract us. The enemy baits us. We must refuse to take the bait. Peace in everything. We must not be distracted from holiness, from our duties and from God's work.

I am careful never to be too impressed by the enemy's paltry power. The enemy shouts and roars, blows and bellows, but it is the empty raging of one with no real strength. Those with real power speak softly. They do not need to yell.

Remember that if Jesus Christ is bigger than the Empire State Building, in terms of power and strength and influence, the devil is, in comparison, the size and strength of a little fire ant. He can sting but he cannot topple the Empire State Building. As I have said in the past, let's not gather around the fire ant, admiring his power when we stand in the shadow of the Empire State Building. We must turn around and face the Almighty, admiring and relying on His limitless power.

Jesus reminded me of this one morning. I was concerned about a dreadfully unjust and false attack. I felt at a loss to respond. Jesus said, "Anne, I conquered the world. I can handle this."

Anne's experience in Purgatory
Today, Easter Sunday, was a happy and peaceful day. I went down to pray to the Chapel. Jesus drew me into a state of union with Him and brought me to a place. It was further again away from the place where it is a new day, over another sky and into another place of activity. He told me beforehand that He was taking me to show me where souls would go who would be taken in the next event. It was like a park, beautiful, peaceful. There were people there. I understood that some souls were newly arrived. They were with loved ones, talking and laughing. There was great lightness of spirit and initially I thought these were all children playing. They were not all children, though, although some were children. And they were not all family members in the earthly sense. They were members of our family of God.

In one area souls moved through the air. This was giving them great joy and they were laughing aloud. I understood that they were learning to move at will, to their delight. Jesus let me look for while, and then drew me away to one end of the area, that was misty. I walked into the mist and it became increasingly more and more misty and foggy. There were many souls in the mist. I could hear their prayers as I walked.

Jesus stopped me at one soul and I listened. This man sat up against a tree. He was completely isolated by the mist. He sat with his back to this tree praying. I could hear him. He begged God for forgiveness. Grief for his sins poured out of him. He felt so much regret. Jesus said that this was a place where souls came to be purified. I understood that there were souls all around us. I also understood that as the mist thickened, so did the isolation and remorse.

I said, Jesus, his prayers are so beautiful, so pure. Jesus told me that all prayers in this place were beautiful and pure.  The man was praying passionately that souls on earth, some of them his loved ones, would be spared such dreadful remorse. Jesus explained to me that this soul had worshipped a false god. He said that this man worshipped the god of materialism and rejected Him, Jesus. This man was being purified.

This was purgatory.
